In 2017, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) recognized the need to reduce its energy costs – a significant controllable operating cost — but lacked sufficient trained staff to Retro-Commission (RCx) its foreign and domestic installations. The USACE contracted PGI to provide subject matter expertise, and to develop and deploy retro-commissioning (RCx) training to its facility managers.
PGI developed conceptual and equipment specific training content and trained twenty-two engineers over a one-week period using classroom, on-line and hands-on techniques. Training focused on the RCx process involving the evaluation of the installations subsystems to determine whether they are performing efficiently, and, if not, determine appropriate, cost effective remediation plans to reduce operating costs. Core RCx competencies covered: field investigation, trend data analyses, systems diagrams, sequences and protocols.
